The role

The Intermediate Accountant is responsible for supporting the finance team by ensuring the month end close process is timely and accurate as well as performing ad-hoc accounting and treasury tasks, and supporting the wider finance group on a continuous basis With key responsibilities for select assets, this role works as part of the Finance team to ensure Vantage Group compliance with established Canadian and International US GAAP, as well as local rules and regulations.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepares and enters journal entries for Corporate Office and subsidiaries
  • Reviews accounts payable invoices to ensure accuracy and completion
  • Prepares monthly accounts receivable invoices as required
  • Assists with the preparation of the budget for Corporate Office and subsidiaries
  • Liaises with the bank for daily banking activities
  • Liaises with business leaders from select assets to resolve issues related to accounting
  • Prepares monthly financial statements for select assets
  • Prepares monthly reconciliation schedules and working papers
  • Prepares monthly cash flow corporate office and subsidiaries
  • Liaises with external parties as required (e.g. bankers, auditors, etc)
  • Assists with and contributes to the Finance system conversion project and other accounting projects
  • Responsible for monitoring and preparing regulatory and compliance documents for their respective sites
  • Assists in preparation of cash flow forecasting and treasury analysis on a monthly basis
  • Preparation of annual cash flow budget for relevant sites
  • Preparation of Balance Sheet forecast, quarterly analysis and re-forecasting efforts
  • Provides information to FP&A team for preparation of Management Report
  • Cross-trains fellow team-members in their month-end tasks to ensure vacation/time-off can be taken without interruption to finance functions
  • Other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position may be assigned

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related discipline
  • 4-6 years of accounting experience in industry, with foreign exchange transactions
  • Accounting designation, or in process of obtaining designation
  • Experience in coordinating accounting system implementation projects
  • Experience with MS Dynamics Navision/ D365 is required
  • Advanced Excel skills, plus proficiency in other Microsoft Office programs
  • Independent, strong ability to ask questions, and learn on the job
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, prioritizing and multitasking
