The Role

The Senior Director, Design and Construction (NAD) is responsible for leading and coordinating construction projects associated with the Nassau Lynden Pindling International Airport, from initiation, design, execution and activation.  This includes development of project goals and objectives, design review and input, resource allocation, budget, schedule, contracting, procurement, quality, safety and overall execution for the timely completion of projects.  The role will require collaboration with site stakeholders, supervisors, consultants and contractors to plan and execute on the redevelopment project.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates and manages all phases of construction projects, including project initiation, planning, execution and closeout.
  • Supports the establishment of project objectives, scope and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders and ensuring alignment with client requirements.
  • Develops and manages project schedules, budgets and resource allocations to ensure cost efficiency and timely delivery.
  • Develops key strategic relationships with Vendors, Airlines, Contractors, Subcontractors and Airport Stakeholders, as it relates to the above scope of work.
  • With support of project team resources and NAD support staff, tracks the performance and execution on the project to ensure scope is completed within established budget and schedule.
  • Provides guidance in the development of options and adoption of project definition, scope limits, design, and phased delivery of airport construction projects. This includes working closely with airport/facility owners, affected airlines, governmental agencies and commercial subtenants operating at target facilities to ensure buy-in and incorporation of their input into the design and delivery of the new and replacement facilities.
  • Supports project implementation and delivery function, which includes:
    • Project Definition
    • Scope inclusions and exclusions
    • Cost estimating
    • Contracting and Procurement strategies
    • Operational optimization & engineering
    • Day to day construction
    • Activation and commissioning
    • Management of third-party consultants and select project management staff
    • Reporting and presenting project status monthly
  • Ensures the incorporation of life cycle costing and commitments to sustainable development and operations into program definition and design efforts.
  • Meeting project goals related to local content including; Bahamian based suppliers, vendors, contractors and workforce.
  • Other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position may be assigned

About You

With an undergraduate university degree in Engineering or related fields with airport construction experience, you have a minimum of 20 years’ experience in project management and overseeing large, complex infrastructure construction projects.  Extensive experience in the aviation sector.  Professional Engineer status an asset.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with impacted stakeholders
  • Strong capabilities in reporting and analysis are matched by strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and implementation, program management, change management, and business systems experience
  • Knowledge of local construction regulations, permit requirements and approval processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; must be comfortable connecting and communicating with individuals at all levels of an organization
  • Demonstrated ability to provide consulting-style support to leaders, analyze complex business challenges, and develop actionable recommendations that drive commercial and operational outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to use data to inform decisions, track performance, and measure impact.
  • Exceptional skills in building, maintaining, and influencing relationships across internal teams, network locations, clients, and external partners.
  • Ability to directly create presentation-level documents and reports supporting project deliverables
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, including experience engaging with senior executives, boards, and client stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating in a matrixed environment, thriving in ambiguity, and adapting to evolving priorities and complex organizational needs.
  • Aptitude for analyzing complex issues, resolving conflicts, and making informed decisions while maintaining objectivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring high performance and sustainable outcomes.
