The role

 

The Airport Groundskeeper maintains the grounds and garden areas on airport property to ensure the beauty, neatness, cleanliness, and safety of the grounds for airport passengers and tenants. This role requires a passion for working outdoors in all weather conditions, an interest in plants and landscaping, and attention to detail. Reporting to the Supervisor, Airport Safety & Facilities, this role is a regular, full-time union position covered by a Collective Agreement. The rate of pay is $32.46 per hour.

Key responsibilities

 

· Maintain gardens, trees, shrubs, lawns / turf, flowers, fields, irrigation systems, trails and park areas on Airport property and surrounding lands.

o Water, weed, trim, and cut all vegetation types

o Apply pest control and fertilizer as needed

o Design and install or remove plantings as needed

o Ensure adherence to aviation regulations tree height

· Develop and implement an effective landscape maintenance program

· Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, walkways, parking areas, and roadways on Airport property

· Remove debris and garbage from groundside and airside areas and bins

· Conduct related facilities maintenance activities

· Support the Manager, Facilities and Emergency Response and Manager, Operational Compliance, as needed.

About you

 

· Post-secondary education in a recognized Horticulture, Landscape Gardening, Turf Management or related field.

· A combination of work experience and training may be considered

· Excellent ability to use hand tools such as pruners, loppers, hand saws, shovels, rakes, hoes, power machinery, and ride-on equipment/tractors/trucks

· MUST BE Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

· MUST BE Able to perform physically demanding and repetitive outdoor work such as bending, kneeling and lifting up to 50 pounds, and able to work at heights

· Valid BC driver’s license, and able to obtain Airside Vehicle Operators Permit

· Climbing Arborist Certification or Valid Applicators Certification an asset

· Able to use Microsoft Office applications
